Ancient geometric patterns inspired by tribal textiles and art are the starting points of our knitwear collection. Vibrant colors in the highest quality cashmere yarns from Scotland and Italy are blended in a unique way to create the extraordinary knitted fabrics of our jackets, sweaters, scarves, shawls, and hats.
Karen Allen-Fiber Arts Studio is located in Western Massachusetts where each knitted garment is made by hand (with the able assistance of the Brother 910 Knitting Machine).
Karen Allen, known for her work in film and theatre (see filmography), has been a passionate designer and hand knitter since the age of 5. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City at 17 and later returned in 2002 to study machine knitting technology. In 2003 she opened a design studio near her home in western Massachusetts. Karen designs, handmakes and oversees every pattern, fabric and garment in the collection.
In June of 2005, Karen opened her own store now at 8 Railroad St. in Great Barrington, MA where her entire collection is available along with the work of other artists and designers that she admires. (See "Where To Buy" for more details).
